Developed for the UJI Game Jam 2023 under the theme “Sacrifice Must Be Made,” this local co-op title follows the journey of a duck and a rabbit as they ascend a perilous tower. Players share a single keyboard, one using WASD and the other the arrow keys to navigate obstacles and solve puzzles. However, progress comes at a cost: players must strategically sacrifice their partner to overcome the tower’s traps.
As one of my first completed projects, I served as the Game Designer and Composer within a collaborative team of six.
We conceptualized the game as a balance between strategic sacrifice and accidental error. A player’s body is more than just a character; it is a tool. Consequently, lives do not merely function as a defeat meter but as a unique resource. This is why corpses remain in the level and can be manipulated or moved by the surviving player to reach new areas. My workflow involved designing each level layout in Photoshop before implementing and configuring the assets within Unity.
This project was my first encounter with the pitfalls of scope creep and inadequate testing. We unfortunately discovered that the final levels were unplayable only three hours before the submission deadline. This experience taught me a vital lesson: it is always better to reduce the number of levels in favor of polishing the core experience. Had we prioritized game feel”and QA earlier in the process, we would have delivered a higher-quality product with significantly less team stress.
